Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) courses are nationally recognized continuing education credentials that are based on the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course for physicians and follow the protocols developed by the Committee on Trauma.  PHTLS courses are designed to provide every practicing emergency care provider with a specific body of knowledge to enhance the assessment and care of the trauma patient. Two Day (16 hour) Course consists of the following components: Baseline evaluation and testing of practical skills Hands-on practical skill teaching Classroom lecture Demonstrated competency is achieved through a written exam and team practical testing. Goals and Objectives To provide a description of the physiology, pathophysiology, and kinetics of injury. To provide an understanding of the need for a rapid assessment of the trauma patient. To advance the participant's level of knowledge in regard to examination and diagnostic skills. To advance the participant's level of competence in regard to specific prehospital trauma intervention skills. To provide an overview and establish a management method for the pre-hospital care of the multi-systems trauma patient. Check the course calendar for upcoming classes.
